In 2020 and beyond, Marvel and Disney have vowed to expand its cinematic universe with a lineup of new standalone characters and origin stories. First up on the schedule this year is Black Widow and with the countdown on until its release on April 30, we have received a fresh look at the forthcoming film.

Spotlighting Natasha Romanoff (played by Scarlett Johansson), a Russian spy-turned-Avenger, the film will look into the character’s past before her – spoiler alert – unfortunate fate during the finale of Avenger’s: Endgame. Speculated to be set during the events of Captain America: Civil War, multiple references look to World War II as she is groomed into human ammunition. The new villain ‘Taskmaster’ has remained elusive until now while the new trailer reveals Yelena (Florence Pugh), the Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Melina (Rachel Weisz) battling the threat. Taskmaster controls the “Red Room” which hardcore fans of the comic book will know is the program that manipulates women and transforms them into assassins.

Despite the postponement of some films including James Bond’s No Time To Die amid coronavirus fears, Disney has confirmed that Black Widow will go ahead with its original release date of April 30. The film features an all-star cast including, Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Rachel Weisz, Ray Winstone, William Hurt and O-T Fagbenle.
