Having helped revitalise the Rocky franchise with his performance in the Creed films’, Michael B. Jordan is taking things a step further by signing on to direct Creed III.

The first two Creed films were box office gold; the first film grossed $173 million worldwide, while the second reached $214 million in ticket sales, and elevated Jordan to A-list status.

The films also marked a career revival for 74-year-old Sylvester Stallone who picked up a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for his performance in Creed.

Taking on directorial duties is a further nod to Stallone, who also directed Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV, and Rocky Balboa.

Details on the plot for Creed III remain scarce, but professional boxer Deontay Wilder has publicly admitted to being interested in joining the Rocky universe, specifically as the son of Clubber Lang, the character made famous by Mr T in Rocky III.

The second instalment saw Adonis Creed (Jordan) face off against Ivan Drago’s son, the man who killed his father in Rocky IV.

Creed III is set to begin filming later this year but in the meantime, you can catch Creed II on Stan.
