If 2023 proved anything with the whole Barbenheimer  phenemonon it was that people want to see a good movie. And they’ll even get off their butts and go to a cinema to see one. Old school.

So as 2024 unfolds, movie enthusiasts are in for a cinematic treat with a lineup of eagerly anticipated films.Here’s a glimpse at eight of the most awaited movies, each promising a unique and captivating experience.

1. Mean Girls: The Musical – Release Date: January 11, 2024

The movie that set the culture (and perhaps overstayed for way too many) Milleniuals, Tina Fey’s Mean Girls is back in musical form. Starring Fey, Angourie Rice and Reneé Rapp Mean Girls: The Musical is a Mobius strip of cinema: a musical movie based on a musical that was based on the original movie, based on a gag that originally appeared in Fey’s series 30 Rock.

2. May December – Release Date: February 1, 2024

Starring Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, May December is set to be one of the year’s first major releases. Based on the truly bizarre – and controversial – story of a teacher who had an affair with a student and went on to marry said student, the film has been heralded as a brilliantly nuanced, darkly comedic, piece directed by Todd Haynes.

3. Madame Web – Release Date: February 15, 2024

Look, it might be garbage or it might be amazing it’s really hard to tell from the (admittedly very camp) dead-eyed reading of the line “right before she was killed” in the trailer is any indication… Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Emma Roberts and Adam Scott star in Madame Web a unique venture into the Spider-Man universe.

4. Dune: Part Two – Release Date: March 15, 2024

Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya return in Dune: Part Two, continuing the epic narrative set on the desert planet of Arrakis. This sequel promises a more in-depth exploration of the Dune universe’s politics, culture, and conflicts and the path of Chalamet’s Paul Atreidis. Joining the next chapter are Florence Pugh and Austin Butler

5. The Challengers – Release Date: April 24, 2024

Zendaya takes centre stage – literally, for one scene already getting fans hot under the collar – in a story set within the high-stakes arena of professional tennis, along with British actor Josh O’Connor. The film is poised to blend intense sports action with a deep exploration of ambition, rivalry, and personal, aaah, space.

6. Deadpool 3 – Release Date: July 26, 2024

Yes there is such a thing as too much Ryan Reynolds but we’re still keen as mustard to set eyes on his upcoming Deadpool 3. We’ve already seen the serious prep that co-star Hugh Jackman has been undergoing to get back into Wolverine shape. The movie is set to be part of Marvel’s Kang phase but with Jonathan Majors now out of the picture, this could impact the final look and tone of the film.

7. Beetlejuice 2 – Release Date: September 6, 2024

The sequel to Tim Burton’s classic, Beetlejuice 2 sees Michael Keaton reprising his beloved role, as well as Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara returning as Lydia and Delia Deetz. Joining them is current scream queen Jenna Ortega. Fans of the original can expect a revival of its dark humour and fantastical elements, along with new twists in the bizarre world of Beetlejuice.

8. Joker: Folie à Deux – Release Date: October 4, 2024

Joaquin Phoenix is back in Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to the groundbreaking Joker film and this time he’s bringing Lady Gaga with him as infamous co-conspirator, Harley Quinn. This continuation is expected to offer an even more intense and complex look into the psyche of its titular character that departs from comic book campiness into something that flips the scripts into of who exactly is the bad guy in the city of Gotham…
