Oh 2020, how we underestimated you and with only four months until the turn of the next year, we thought we’d almost survived the crazy antics and life changing, history making turn of events you threw at us. But alas, there is a presidential election in the wings and if Donald Trump’s continual sabotage wasn’t enough, divine intervention appears to be stepping in. Well, sort of.

According to the Centre for Near Earth Objects Studies at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, celestial object 2018VP1 could reportedly crash somewhere within the United States just one day before the election, on November 2. It was first identified at Palomar Observatory in California in 2018. Dependent on where you stand about the forthcoming election, it could be great or either really dire news, but as it could be cause for concern, it may not be either.

Per NASA, the asteroid is only very small in relative terms. “Asteroid 2018VP1 is very small, approximately 6.5 feet, and poses no threat to Earth. If it were to enter our planet’s atmosphere, it would disintegrate due to its extremely small size,” NASA said in a statement. “NASA has been directed by Congress to discover 90% of the near-Earth asteroids larger than 140 meters (459 feet) in size and reports on asteroids of any size.”

The asteroid will not hit at deep impact and in fact, the chance of it hitting us is just 0.41 percent, data shows.
