While everyone was watching the Taylor Swift/ Travis Kelce cuteness (continuing the tradition of PDA at sport) at the Super Bowl LVIII a very different cultural shift that happened when Post Malone delivered a pre-game performance of “America the Beautiful” that stood out for its simplicity and style, particularly his choice of attire. Dressed in a pared-down ensemble that included a suede blazer, white henley, and suede boots, it was Post Malone’s choice of denim that had us cheering in our seats: a simple, classic pair of Wrangler cowboy cut jeans.

Perhaps it means nothing, but fashion is always a subtext of a cultural shift and Malone’s cowboy denim following hard on the heels of Beyoncé announcing that Renaissance II is a country album and rocking Louis Vuitton’s latest season is brilliant. Route 66 better stock up…

Malone’s choice of denim cuts straight to the core of Americana, specifically country, style: denim is the ultimate Western uniform. The right jeans are the ones you go to work in, are the ones you wear to dinner, are the ones you wear on a date.

While Malone allegedly opted for a slim fit on the evening, there are really only two styles that convey comfort and authenticity: the bootcut and straight leg. The bootcut jeans, characterised by a slight flare at the hem, offer a balanced look that complements boots of various styles. Straight leg jeans, on the other hand, provide a classic and streamlined silhouette that works well for both casual and formal occasions. These styles are celebrated for their ability to adapt to different settings, making them essential pieces for those looking to incorporate the timeless appeal of denim into their wardrobes.

The other reason to celebrate is the reminder of how fashion operates on a real world budget, not the rarified price tags only one percent of the population can afford. A pair of Wranglers will set you back as little as $80 online. But if you want to delve into some other options, check out our favourite denim choices below.
