Prince William has reportedly responded to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s offer of sympathy following Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis. The Princess of Wales revealed the extent of her condition, which she is currently undergoing preventative chemotherapy to treat, following calls for concern about her welfare. Middleton, 42, disclosed the news with a candid video message updating the world on her whereabouts and requesting the public allow her “spice, time and privacy” to manage the disease.

Prince Harry and Markle were amongst the first to break their silence following the revelation, sharing a message of support that read: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.” Now, sources reportedly close to the Wales have divulged that Prince William has responded to the message, but not in a “warm, informal” tone.

“Harry and Meghan have been in contact with William, but their private message was simply one of sympathy and didn’t include any suggestion the brothers should make up and let bygones be bygones or that Harry should fly back to the UK soon,” a royal expert told British tabloids.

“William, who is still hurt by everything Harry has said in the past, has responded, but the response is very much engineered by the palace and it’s hardly the kind of warm, informal response you would expect from one brother to another,” the insider noted before concluding with, “It’s more like the sort of communication you would get between two slightly wary diplomats.”

As per the New York Post, Prince Harry and Markle were not provided with the news of Middleton’s diagnosis before it went public. “They had no idea, and only learned of the news around the same time the rest of the world found out,” another source claimed. Prince Harry briefly returned to London for a mere 30 minutes to meet with his father, King Charles III, after he went public with his cancer battle. It’s not understood if the two Princes have made any plans to reconnect.

The Waleses will skip attending this year’s royal Easter ceremony in favour of some private time as a family by the British seaside. Meanwhile, across the pond, Markle is gearing up for the impending release of her newly launched lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.
