Two days ahead of a jury verdict that will decide if Donald Trump is in fact guilty of paying hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels and attempting to influence the 2016 election, actor Robert De Niro and two former Capitol Police officers have taken to the streets of New York City to voice their condemnation of the former president. The trio, speaking at a press conference organised by Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, warned of the dire consequences if Trump were to win the upcoming election.

“I love this city,” De Niro declared. “Donald Trump wants to destroy not only this city but the country, and eventually he could destroy the world.” De Niro criticised Americans for buying into what he called Trump’s “bullshit” in 2016, accusing Trump of winning votes through “outrageous lies and empty promises.” The actor expressed his outrage at how Trump had persuaded self-styled patriots to support a man who has called for terminating the Constitution and incited an insurrection on January 6.

De Niro’s involvement in the campaign extends to narrating a new Biden-Harris advertisement. “This ad highlights the violence of Trump and reminds us that he’ll use violence against anyone who stands in the way of his megalomania and greed,” he explained.

Standing alongside De Niro were Harry Dunn and Michael Fanone, two former Capitol Police officers hailed as “true heroes” for their roles in defending the U.S. Capitol during the January 6 insurrection. Their presence underscored the gravity of the situation, as they shared their firsthand experiences of the violent attack incited by Trump.

Fanone, in his brief remarks, recounted being assaulted by four Trump supporters on that fateful day. “Those men have since been arrested and admitted to violently assaulting me and other police officers,” he stated, highlighting the personal cost of Trump’s actions.

This public denouncement came just before the historic verdict, where Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in his hush-money trial. As the nation grapples with the implications of this conviction, De Niro’s and the officers’ warnings serve as a stark reminder of the tumultuous path ahead should Trump seek office again.
