Style: Cannes Film Festival Is Delivering Some Red Hot Red Carpet Moments
This is how you do theatrics on the red carpet
Dare I say it – the Cannes Film Festival delivers better style moments than any of its US counterparts. Sorry, but it’s true. Could be the fact that it’s held in France during the spring, the most temperate and delightful time to be on the continent.
Could also be that the movies shown are generally there for art’s sake and not so much the profiteering of major studios but we’ll say that part quietly.
Whatever the reason, the actors and auteurs behind the films have been giving a masterclass in the both on and off duty style. From opening ceremony black tie moments to the more relaxed photo calls for individual films, observers should take note: the art of gentlemanly dressing isn’t dead. It’s just holidaying in the French Riviera.
From Mads Mikkeslen’s reveal as the new face of Zegna, complete with Vicuna overshirt, Ethan Hawke’s casual Saint Laurent (who provided some slick threads for the entire cast of Strange Way of Life including director Pedro Almodóvar) to Jude Law’s custom Brioni tuxedo, Cannes is providing us the sartorial sustenance we’ve been missing.
