Roger Dubuis, the trailblazer in haute horlogerie, is pushing the boundaries once again with the unveiling of two new watches that merge the high-octane world of supercars with the intricate art of watchmaking. Meet the Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph and the Excalibur Spider Revuelto Flyback Chronograph, the two latest technical marvels that the Swiss watchmaker has on the release schedule.
The Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph is a testament to Roger Dubuis’ relentless pursuit of perfection. Drawing inspiration from the cutting-edge technology of supercar engineering, this watch is fuelled by the RD780 calibre, a new flyback chronograph movement with two pending patents. This calibre allows for the instantaneous restarting of the timer function while the chronograph is running, showcasing a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern innovation.

The RD780 calibre is a masterpiece in itself. Unlike the modular approach seen in many chronographs, Roger Dubuis has integrated the complication directly into the movement. This design choice not only enhances the functionality but also provides the watchmakers with the creative freedom to explore new aesthetics. The result is a watch that is both technically superior and visually stunning.
One of the standout features of the Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph is the visible column wheel at 6 o’clock. This intricate component, essential for controlling the chronograph’s functions, is not only a mark of technical prowess but also adds to the watch’s aesthetic appeal. The vertical clutch further improves the accuracy and smoothness of the chronograph, while the Second Braking System (SBS) reduces flicker and enhances stability.
The watch’s exterior is just as impressive as its inner workings. Crafted in lightweight carbon with a ceramic bezel, the 45 mm case is designed to resist scratches and tarnish, mirroring the durability and aesthetics of supercars. The multi-dimensional design features floating tachymeter scales, lower date displays, and raised seconds hands, creating a dynamic and expressive build that reveals new details with every glance.
Making its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph is not just a watch but a statement of Roger Dubuis’ commitment to combining high performance with cutting-edge design. The festival, known for its celebration of car culture, is the perfect stage for this adrenaline-fuelled timepiece.
Alongside the Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph, Roger Dubuis introduces the Excalibur Spider Revuelto Flyback Chronograph. This watch pays homage to the brand’s partnership with Lamborghini Squadra Corse and takes inspiration from the Lamborghini Revuelto, the first super sports V12 hybrid plug-in HPEV. The watch features bold colours and aerodynamic curves that reflect the aesthetics of the supercar.
Powered by the same RD780 calibre, the Excalibur Spider Revuelto Flyback Chronograph also boasts a tilted balance wheel at 9 o’clock, which ensures resistance to everyday knocks and the negative effects of gravity. The diamond-coated silicon escapement wheel and pallet-stones provide anti-magnetic qualities, further enhancing the watch’s performance.

The exterior design of the Revuelto model features a lightweight carbon case with sharp lines and a ceramic bezel. The green rubber strap with orange stitching not only adds a pop of colour but also features a Quick Release System for easy strap changes. The multi-dimensional design includes a floating tachymeter scale and a lower date display, creating a visually dynamic watch that stands out.
Limited to just 88 pieces, the Excalibur Spider Revuelto Flyback Chronograph will make its debut at Watches and Wonders Shanghai. This exclusive event will showcase the timepiece at Roger Dubuis’ Hyper Life Factory, where visitors can experience the thrill of Hyper Horology™ in an immersive setting.
Roger Dubuis continues to accelerate through the gears of innovation and performance, leaving a trail of awe-inspiring watches in its wake. With the Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph and the Excalibur Spider Revuelto Flyback Chronograph, the brand solidifies its place at the intersection of high watchmaking and supercar engineering.
