In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a security guard was seriously injured during a shooting at Drake’s lavish Toronto mansion in the upscale Bridle Path neighbourhood, also known as Millionaires’ Row. Authorities reported that the incident occurred at approximately 2am, and responding officers found the wounded man, who was promptly transported to a hospital.

Inspector Paul Krawczyk, speaking outside Drake’s residence, noted that the investigation was still in its initial stages and that information remained scarce. Police have yet to determine a motive for the shooting, and details about the suspect and their getaway vehicle have not been disclosed.

The security guard was on duty outside the mansion gates when he was shot and remains in a serious condition at the hospital. Inspector Krawczyk could not confirm if Drake was present during the incident but mentioned that the rapper’s team was fully cooperating with the investigation.

When asked about a possible link between the shooting and the ongoing feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, Inspector Krawczyk acknowledged awareness of the conflict but stated it was too early to speculate on motives, refraining from further comment. The escalating rivalry between the two high-profile rappers intensified last week when Lamar released three diss tracks in rapid succession. The final track, “Not Like Us,” included aerial shots of Drake’s Toronto estate.

The music video, which has garnered over 23 million views, led some fans to label Drake’s residence as “Owned by Kendrick” on Google Maps before the marker was eventually removed.

As the investigation continues, Toronto police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in identifying the suspect involved in this brazen attack.

A Brief Explainer On The Beef Between Drake And Kendrick Lamar

Their relationship between Drake and Lamar wasn’t always tense. Over a decade ago, they collaborated on songs like “Buried Alive Interlude,” “Poetic Justice,” and A$AP Rocky’s hit, “(Expletive) ‘ Problems.” However, tensions flared in 2013 when Lamar called out several artists, including Drake, in Big Sean’s “Control.” Drake responded that Lamar wouldn’t surpass him, igniting a back-and-forth rivalry that simmered in subsequent years.

In October 2023, J. Cole inadvertently reignited the feud with a line referencing both rappers on “First Person Shooter.” Lamar released a series of diss tracks, culminating in “Not Like Us,” which took aim at Drake’s relationships and personal life, effectively accusing the Canadian of sexual relations with minors. Drake responded with his own diss tracks, like “The Heart Part 6,” where he defended himself against Lamar’s accusations and lobbed his own allegations of domestic abuse against Lamar.

The verbal sparring between these two prominent rappers has evoked some of hip-hop’s most memorable battles, but many fans and critics worry that it has escalated beyond mere lyrical competition. Police have yet to confirm a direct link between the feud and the shooting, but the rivalry’s heated nature is raising concerns across the hip-hop community.
