In early 2019, Marvel fans were in a frenzy following the anticipated drop of Avengers: Endgame, the final film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was breaking box office records, left, right and centre and now, it seems that this side of 2019 has more film madness to offer. Early this week, the final trailer to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was unveiled. Welcoming back writer and director J.J. Abrams back to the creative team, the forthcoming finale promises an exciting end to the celebrated trilogy and it is already breaking records.

In its first hour of pre-sales, the Star Wars film has already surpassed Avengers: Endgame. According to ticket booking company Atom Tickets, the upcoming final instalment of the saga sold a whopping 45 percent more tickets in its first hour of pre-sales than the Marvel spectacle.

This proves as a promising statistic for the box office sales as well. The ‘Endgame’ finale is currently the highest grossing film of all time and sits at $2.9 billion USD sales globally, however with this new trend suggests that record could soon change.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits cinemas December 19. Tune into the action-packed trailer below and mark your calendars as this is expected to be the cinematic event of the century.
