If you’re familiar with the work Taika Waititi, you’d be accustomed to his quirky humour and comedic outlook on film. Behind films such Thor: Ragnarok and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, the New Zealand-born filmmaker and actor cemented his position as an award winning creative thanks to his newly-released project Jojo Rabbit. Last week, Waititi won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and off the back of his new-found glory, the comedic individual is already looking at his next project.

As rumoured by The Hollywood ReporterTaikia Waititi is set to join award-winning actor Jude Law on a new limited series. Sources have confirmed that the pair are in talks with Showtime for a new project titled, The Auteur. The series will be based on the graphic novel of the same name written by James Callahan and Rick Spears. As described in the 2014 novel:

“Fresh off the biggest bomb in Hollywood history, producer Nathan T. Rex enters a downward spiral of drugs and depravity in a quest to resurrect his career and save his soul. Over budget and behind schedule on ‘Presidents Day,’ he is backed into a corner by bad publicity, a crap project, and studio politics. But enlisting serial-killer-turned-murder-consultant Darwin, his trusty assistant Igor, narcotics from Doctor Love, and the lovely actress Coconut, T.Rex will stop at nothing in his quest for cinematic fame and glory. God help us all.”

Currently, there is no production date. Waititi is due to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic universe this year for Thor: Love and Thunder while Law is set to star in the next instalment of Fantastic Beasts, also due to begin filming, while he will also star in the HBO limited series The Third Day later in 2020.

The project is exciting for fans of both creatives and is expected to be just as quirky and hilarious as past projects. Will it come to fruition? Only time will tell. Stay tuned.
