Everything
Even if sci-fi space opera Dune 2 turned out to be a dud (which it isn’t by any means and potentially even better than the first one in many ways) the press tour alone should be given an award for best drama thanks to the incredible fashion being delivered by the film’s lead star Timothée Chalamet.
Yes, we all know Zendaya is also proving that she, along with stylist Law Roach, cannot put a well-dressed foot wrong and her collaboration with Louis Vuitton was the correct choice. But Chalamet has been hard at work doing his own sartorial heavy lifting in promotion of the film.
Custom Haider Ackermann, matching leather jumpsuits, a Gucci suit or a Prada leather ensembles–Chalamet, with a little help from stylist Ryan Hastings–has been nailing every red carpet appearance. Better than some of the recent runways, to be fair. Perhaps his current situationship with one Kylie Jenner has also had a part to play….It might explain all the leather looks.
Here’s our round up of the best Timothée Chalamet looks for the Dune 2 press tour thus far…
10. GIVENCHY, PARIS
It’s okay. It’s really just a slim cut suit. The custom-molded breast plate is cool.
9. BOTTEGA VENETA, LONDON
Let’s be clear – this isn’t second last because it’s bad. It’s second last place purely because as the roll-out for Dune continued, Chalamet’s star just kept rising. The scallop detail shirt is speaks to the film’s aesthetic, as does the leather pants.
8. BOTTEGA VENETA, PARIS
The turtleneck is perhaps a little obvious for a French launch (“Je suis Le Wiggle Noir”) but the Bottega snakeskin trousers look awesome. Boots by Berluti are always a win.
7. GUCCI, SEOUL
Nice, sharp, did the job.
6. HERMÈS and ALEXANDER MCQUEEN, JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE
Okay technically not a red carpet but this is great subtle method fashion. The Hermès knit looks like it could have been bought at the local Freman boutique store and the Alexander McQueen leather trousers are perfect.
5. PRADA, MEXICO CITY
The scrunched layered sleeves, the wrap around belt – this is how to make a suit look like it belongs in the company of an epic sci-fi world.
4. HERMÈS, MEXICO CITY
Another winner from Hermès. There’s not too many situations that call for sleeveless cowl necks but this is one where it not just works but looks like it was made for it.
3. JUUN J, SEOUL
The fact that Law Roach not only worked with local Korean designer Juun J to get perhaps THE most film referential look for the press tour, but got Zendaya a matching suit in peach is instantly iconic.
2. HAIDER ACKERMANN, LONDON
A long time collaborator slash favourite of Chalamet and you can see why: it’s flawless. If you head to Ackermann’s Instagram there is a BTS video of these custom trousers being made.
1. PRADA, NEW YORK CITY
The fit of the trousers. The colours. The simplicity. Chalamet doesn’t just look incredible he looks comfortable and THAT is good fashion. Top tier from Prada and deserved of number one position.
