Champagne problems? Never going to happen if you’re Travis Kelce especially after the Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end has something far more substantial to celebrate: a new US$34 million (A$51.1 million) contract extension, securing his place as the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.
The deal, confirmed by NFL reporter Tom Pelissero, ensures guaranteed money for Kelce in 2024 and secures him through 2027, when he’ll be 38. “Kelce now has guaranteed money in 2024, with additional money vesting year-by-year,” Pelissero shared on X.
The Chiefs joined the celebration, proudly tweeting, “We signed the greatest tight end ever to a new contract.” Kelce himself took to social media, wearing a KC hat and proclaiming, “Back at it again baby! Feels good to be in KC.” He reflected on his 12-year journey with the Chiefs and expressed his excitement for the years ahead. “Getting fired up for this year,” he continued. “We’re back at it baby. Chiefs forever!”

Patrick Mahomes, Kelce’s teammate and partner in multiple Super Bowl victories, also chimed in on social media, writing, “I told y’all I’d never let him leave!! Congrats my guy!”
The specifics of Kelce’s current deal remain under wraps, but his previous four-year, $57.25 million contract with the Chiefs was set to expire in 2025. This new extension ensures Kelce’s place in Kansas City, where he has spent 11 successful seasons since 2013, and keeps him as a central figure on the field.
For the Chiefs, securing Kelce could be argued as something bigger than just commitment to maintaining a winning legacy. Yes, the deal solidifies the continued partnership between Kelce and the Chiefs, as they aim for more victories and Super Bowl glory.
It’s also good marketing. Ratings matter and the spike in ratings that Kelce’s plus one Swift along with her entire entourage brought to their games…Money clearly does talk and turns out it can also be a love language as the announcement comes hot on the heels of Taylor Swift officially becoming a billionaire.
