2019 has been a huge year for action film and while we’ve seen science fiction iterations including the likes of Men In Black: International and Avengers: Endgamethe latest title is set to bring the genre back down to earth – literally. While the ninth instalment of ‘Fast & Furious’ heads for production this month, the celebrated franchise looks to the release of its fresh spin-off ‘Hobbs & Shaw‘.

Boasting an A-lister cast including Fast & Furious OG Dwayne Johnson (playing Hobbs), Jason Statham (playing Shaw) and Idris Elba as villainous character, ‘Brixton Lore’, the film has been the subject of a slew of rumours since early 2018. Slated to drop into cinemas from early August, Universal Pictures has released the final trailer to the film, giving us more explosions, stunts and excitement.

The official synopsis reads:

“Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down.

But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.”

Following eight films of Fast & Furious, Hobbs & Shaw promises to be faster and more furious as it looks to evolve into a franchise of its own. According to Collider, director David Leitch told the publication “It’s an origin story, in a sense. It’s not an origin story, but we’re starting a franchise, so we want it to be a little bit more grounded, a little bit more character-centric. We’re going to set up the stakes for these guys and their relationship, but we’re also going to have some great set pieces and some action that you’d expect.”

From Los Angeles to London, the final trailer features gravity-defying stunts and comedic anecdotes as it ushers in a new era for the Furious cinematic universe. Check out the trailer below.
