Adapted from the 1965 novel by Frank Herbert, Dune is not just another sci-fi remake, in fact, the fantasy epic was so popular it went on to see five more sequels. The dystopian tale was beyond its time, set far into the future following an intergalactic feudal society where noble houses fight for control over resources, armies, and planetary power. Sounds eerily familiar doesn’t it?

Following the initial announcement of the film back in mid-April, the first trailer has come to fruition and brings life to the characters depicted in stills months ago. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Warner Bros. has shared an epic 3-minute long teaser, putting spotlight on the likes of Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides and Zendaya as Chani.

Dune will cover just half of the book, and teases a further franchise to come. “No matter what you believe, Earth is changing, and we will have to adapt,” Villeneuve told Vanity Fair following the initial announcement of the film. “That’s why I think that Dune, this book, was written in the 20th century. It was a distant portrait of the reality of the oil and the capitalism and the exploitation–the overexploitation–of Earth. Today, things are just worse. It’s a coming-of-age story, but also a call for action for the youth.”

The film is slated to release in December 18, 2020. Stay tuned.
