Since its initial stages of production, the latest instalment of the James Bond franchise has been plagued with issues. From re-writes to on-set injuries, the trailer to No Time To Die has finally arrived. Revealed overnight, everything we expect from Daniel Craig’s character and the action-pack plot can be found. Rivalling other 2020 cinematic events including Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Marvel’s Black Widow, the forthcoming trailer has promised wild stunts, imaginative plot twists and futuristic technology. But as Daniel Craig farewells the iconic role, it leaves the question: who is next?

Actors are arriving in droves with their hands up to take on the role – think Harry Styles and Robert Pattinson – but as the rumour mill turns, we may have an idea of who is to come. In July, a film insider confirmed that Lashana Lynch would be introduced into the squad as a young M16 agent. While it was initially speculated she could take on the 007 role, the latest teaser could be considered a hint. Though the trailer doesn’t reveal her code, she is certainly a ‘double 0’ and refers to the fact she is the future of the franchise.

Taking up the role of Nomi, she warns that “the world’s moved on, Commander Bond” before promising him: “You get in my way and I will put a bullet in your knee … the one that works.” Talk about girl power. It has been 57 years since the beginning of the prolific franchise but Bond 25 will mark the first James Bond iteration since the establishment of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movement.

Earlier this year Craig told The Mirror, “I think that everybody should be considered. Also for women and for African-Americans, there should be great parts anyway, across the board.” Soon after, he confirmed his views on a UK morning TV show further commenting, “I cannot see any reason why ultimately, a woman, a lady, a girl, cannot play the James Bond character.”

No Time To Die will drop into cinemas from April 8, 2020. Tune into the trailer below.
