It’s 2022, where almost any collaboration can be made into a reality. Case in point: the latest A$AP Rocky collaboration which reveals a three-way creative effort between the rap star, his relatively known-unknown create agency AWGE and of course, Mercedes-Benz.

Not the strangest collab we’ve come across, however.

The capsule collection, which officially launched on March 17, has piqued the interest of the streetwear community due to the nature of A$AP Rocky’s past and present collaborations. The 33-year old has already (successfully) aligned with the likes of Virgil Abloh, Heron Preston and Proenza Schouler, so what’s to say this one with the German automotive giant will be any different?

“I grew up in the ‘90s, so it’s one of the most important eras for me to draw back inspiration from,” Rocky said via an interview with Highsnobiety.

“This collection is paying homage to all the nostalgia that comes back to me every time I see the Mercedes emblem. … PacSun felt like a natural partner to sell the collaboration.”

The collection will be officially stocked at Pacsun, a Californian lifestyle clothing and accessories retail store, whom Rocky has collaborated with previously.

The collection is inspired by everyday wearable streetwear classics (think hoodies, sweatpants, caps, plus more) embellished with Mercedes-Benz and AWGE branding. A bright orange bomber emblazoned with matching branding has surfaced in editorial photos but it’s unclear whether this will also be available for purchase.

The capsule touches on themes of the past, present and future, with retro car merch of yesteryear a clear design inspiration. And it doesn’t surprise us, as we know that Rocky is into his cars, as told by his first collaboration with Mercedes-Benz back in 2016 with a creative commercial.

The limited-edition capsule collection officially dropped on March 17 and is available on both the Pacsun website and AWGE web store.
