For Generation Z kids, you may have missed the undeniable fame of singer-cum-entrepreneur, Akon, in the early 2000s. Nevertheless, the ‘Smack That’ artist has been revealing plans for his very own AKOIN – namesake cryptocurrency – and a dream city for some time now and is set to be the next generation of technology. And whilst we all though it may just be talk, Akon has pulled through and officially announced the construction of Akon City.
The vision will be born through a $6 Billion USD contract for construction and consulting firm KE International. Situated less than an hour south of Dakar International Airport in Senegal, the president, plans for the city to act as a special tax zone with full infrastructure like roads, a Hamptons Hospital campus, Hamptons Mall, residences, hotels, police, schools, waste facilities, and a solar power plant. Partners of the huge project include U.S-based Kenyan entrepreneur and Investor, Julius Mwale, who has also worked with KE International on his $2 billion USD Mwale Medical and Technology City (MMTC) project.
Akon aims for Akon City to be LEED certified (Leader in Energy and Environmental Design) while attracting foreign investment from its tax incentives and will run entirely on AKOIN – how’s that for a futuristic city. The new-age Akon City is set for completion by 2030.
This is the stuff of movies so stay tuned for further developments.
