In 2009, Barack Obama was seen entering and ordering his favourite meal from a Five Guys restaurant in Washington. He allegedly ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, mustard and jalapeno peppers. It is believed to be one of his favourite burger joints and it is heading to Australian shores – I’ll have what he’s having.
Sydney’s Western Suburbs will be the first to welcome Five Guys before eventually heading to Brisbane and Melbourne in the future with sights set on New Zealand next. Joining outposts you would have seen before in cities such as London and Paris, this move has been a long time coming. In 2016, the franchise announced global expansion which has finally reach the east coast Down Under.
Five Guys Penrith will open its doors from 2021 with construction starting soon. The franchisee, Seagrass Boutique Hospitality – also behind the likes of 6Head, Ribs & Burgers and The Butcher and the Farmer – also plans to open outposts in the CBD, Darling Harbour, Circular Quay and Broadway.
According to a spokesperson for Seagrass Boutique Hospitality, “We are looking to open our first store in early 2021.”
It is no secret that Sydney loves a good burger and the arrival of a new contender will likely spark a continuance of the war for the best burger. Staying at home? We rated the best burgers from Deliveroo here.
