The Blancpain X Swatch collaboration is expanding its horizon the introduction of the “Ocean of Storms,” a new addition to the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection. This collection of timepieces pays homage to the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, renowned for being the first true diver’s watch, introduced over seventy years ago. The Ocean of Storms distinguishes itself with its deep black colour, inspired by the new moon, also known as the Black Moon, and is part of an ongoing theme of lunar inspiration.

The design of this non-limited edition watch is marked by its sleek, dark aesthetic, fitting for its celestial namesake. It joins the initial range of the Scuba Fifty Fathoms collection, which originally featured five colour variants, each representing a different ocean.

The case of the Ocean of Storms is made from black bioceramic, measuring 42.3mm in diameter and 14.4mm in height. It retains the signature dimensions of the line. The watch features drilled lugs that add a retro touch and a unidirectional rotating bezel with a glossy insert and a 60-minute graduation. True to its Fifty Fathoms heritage, it boasts a water resistance of 91 metres.

The dial sports a sunray-brushed finish in stark black, with indices and hands that echo the iconic Fifty Fathoms design, complete with luminous material for enhanced night-time visibility. Additionally, the dial includes a date window, strategically placed between 4 and 5 o’clock, a design element consistent with many models in the Fifty Fathoms series.

Under the hood, the Ocean of Storms is powered by the mechanical Sistem51 movement, in line with Blancpain’s preference for mechanical over quartz movements. This movement functions at 21,600vph and offers a notable 90-hour power reserve. A unique aesthetic element is the full-sized rotor, adorned with the image of the Okenia Luna nudibranch, a type of shell-less marine gastropod.

The Ocean of Storms will be available globally starting January 11, 2024, aligning with the day of the new moon. It will be sold exclusively in selected Swatch stores, with a limit of one watch per person, per store, per day.
