2018 sounded the return of the ‘Dad’ sneakers, an ’80s iteration of the white leather sneakers we came to pair with sweatshirts and baggy jeans during the era. Just as quickly as the look permeated the runway and high street style, the likes of Balenciaga and Gucci initialised the race for the ugliest sneakers. The bigger and brighter, the better. But in two short years, the once-hyped styles became less wearable as we turned to more classic silhouettes.

We wouldn’t go as far as to say the trend is completely dead, but there is a call for more longevity in fashion. That’s where Giorgio Armani enters. Fall/Winter 2020 has arrived at the namesake Italian fashion house, and just one of its many key looks come in the form of sneakers, a surprise yet welcomed addition to the cold weather offering.

Giorgio Armani is not necessarily known for its sneaker offerings, but perhaps that is what makes its next pair of kicks the perfect blend of Millennial style and wearability. Available in a myriad of colours including a navy look, all-black, beige and burgundy iteration, Giorgio Armani combine approachable colourways with a hybrid hiking boot-sneaker.

The result sees a platform-like sole with layers of leather, suede and a mesh tech fabric and cord laces. Similar silhouettes see an all-leather iteration with flat laces in colour block.  The ‘cool’ factor comes from a chunky buckle fastening which straps over the tongue as well as branding in the form of a ‘G’ seen on the outsole. It perfectly marries trend with timelessness and forms our unexpected hero piece for the season, and year round.
