The moment you’ve all been waiting for. It’s been just under two years since the first episode of Season 7 aired on HBO and after leaving fans on a cliff-hanger, it’s been a long time coming to see the first images of Game of Thrones Season 8. Revealed yesterday evening, HBO shared the first teaser for the final six episodes along with an air date.

Shown during the premiere of True Detective Season 3 , the final season from GoT is set to air from April 14. While the eighth season will only be made up of six episodes, they are set to have a similar run time to that of a feature-length film and include the biggest and most expensive battle scenes in television history.

Though it will mark the end of an era for both the crew and fanatics sitting at home, fear not as a fresh prequel from George R. R. Martin is on the way. According to Variety, the series is “one of five Game of Thrones projects that has been in the works at HBO,” so gear up for more fantasy adventures in the years to come.
