In case you’ve forgotten, season three of the Emmy award-winning HBO drama series Succession concluded its nine-episode masterpiece with a bang.

SPOILERS AHEAD

The Roy siblings, Kendall, Roman and Shiv, have been left high and dry by their power-wielding media tycoon father Logan Roy, in a masterful play that saw the King taking his seat on the throne. “Everything I try to do, people turn against me,’ Logan says spitefully at the beginning of the teaser trailer.

“I’m a hundred feet tall. These people are pygmies.” The pygmies in reference are, of course, his children.

What the Roy siblings can take away from the aftermath of season 3, however, is the act of betrayal has literally brought them closer than they have perhaps ever been as a family – they have formed a “rebel alliance”, as Connor Roy puts it.

The “new gen Roys”… and they want revenge.

So, with the arrival of the first teaser of Succession Season 4, it’s no surprise that Logan Roy is claiming his stake of the throne, asserting his dominance in this world he believes he owns.

But is it perhaps a case of the pride that comes before the fall?

The new trailer sets in motion the plotting of Logan’s takedown, which we knew was bound to happen in this penultimate season. What tricks Kendall, Shiv and Roman have up their sleeves remains to be seen, however. The trailer also highlights the epic betrayal of Shiv Roy at the hands of her “husband” Tom Wambsgans, who did so in the coldest, most epic way in the final act of season three.

As it stands, the official synopsis for season 4 reads: “The sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) moves ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is completed. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.”

Fans of the HBO drama will also be pleased to know that the entire cast, including  Brian Cox, Sarah Snook, Jeremy Strong, Alan Ruck, Tom Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun, J.Smith-Cameron and Alexander Skarsgård will be returning for season 4.

The highly anticipated 10-episode season of Succession is scheduled for release in the first half of 2023. Watch the full teaser trailer below.
