In anticipation for the release in September, streaming service Hulu dropped its first trailer for The First, the newest original series from House of Cards creator Beau Willimon. Starring actor Sean Penn, the series will follow a team of astronauts on the first human mission to Mars.

Set in New Orleans in the year 2031, the series will explore “the challenges of taking the first steps toward interplanetary colonisation. The story focuses not only on the astronauts, but also on their families and loved ones, as well as the ground team on Earth,” according to TV Line.

Next to Penn, Hollywood favourites including Natascha McElhone (Designated Survivor), Lisa Gay Hamilton (Chance), Hannah Ware (Boss), Keiko Agena (Gilmore Girls), Rey Lucas (Luke Cage), James Ransone (Mosaic), Anna Jacoby-Heron (Finding Carter), Brian Lee Franklin (Godless) and Oded Fehr (24: Legacy), will also feature within the Hulu original.

“I have such deep admiration for Sean’s immense talent and extraordinary body of work,” said Willimon in a statement. “I feel very lucky to be collaborating with an artist of his caliber.”

The First is a co-production between British television network Channel 4, and reportedly cost almost $55 million to produce. The series will be made available to stream on Hulu from September 14. Check out the trailer below.
