Mixing the world of horology with EDM might not be your usual combination, but Hublot have always shown little interest in doing the expected. Their Art of Fusion philosophy has always meant the Swiss watchmaker is more interested in creating watches that shake up the status quo and their iconic Big Bang timepiece has become synonymous with impact-making features and design. The latest version, a collaboration with French DJ Snake, lives up to the hype.

The 45mm watch has been given a psychedelic makeover. An iridescent sheen now covers the Big Bang hardware, giving the familiar silhouette a cascade of violet and blue hues – at first reminiscent of deep space (Big Bang by name, Big Bang by design?) but also a subtle nod to the flashing of a nightclub where DJ Snake works his own craft.

By nature, the Big Bang is a technical work of art but the colour treatment used for the collaboration requires an even sharper finesse. Each separate component of the watch, from the bezel to the titanium pieces, has been treated with a special manufacturing process Hublot describes as similar to black PVD treatment.

Each one of those components then had to be individually coloured and placed in specific positions to achieve a unique light effect that causes the colours to change and shift depending on the angle they’re looked at.

With only 100 of the Big Bang DJ Snake timepieces available it’s giving the old phrase “time is precious” a whole new meaning.
