There are not many spy films nowadays that spark such hype as that of the Kingsman franchise. Be it thanks to the lauded director, Matthew Vaughn, the all-star cast or perhaps the attention to detail expected throughout the film, but the forthcoming release of The King’s Man is set to be a box office hit. As fashion makes its inevitable cycle once again, there will be a focus on the costuming for the tastemaker and wishful spy as the film dives back in time, 100 years, at the making of the Kingsman agency.

Announced overnight, Jaeger-LeCoultre and MR PORTER launched the Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife watch, a limited edition of 100 timepieces, specially adapted for The King’s Man, the upcoming Kingsman origins film. As we reverse back in time, so too has the luxury watchmakers of Jaeger-LeCoultre as the brand draws inspiration from the celebrated 1907 ‘Couteau’ pocket watch. Blending timelessness with a sense of wearable modernity – particularly in our era of street and sportswear – the timepiece pays homage to the period of The King’s Man as well as contemporary style.

Features of a traditional pocket watch are found within the very broad bezel, sloping gently from the sapphire crystal to the edge of the case, creating a fine profile reminiscent of a knife blade and the winding crown, protected by its triangular bow, is placed at 12 o’clock. Subtle modern details include simple index hour markers which keep the dial refined and clean, while a finely drawn ring is repeated as a circular highlight on the bezel.

As the Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife watch would suggest, the 40mm size timepiece has a pink gold case which measures at just 4.25mm thick. The ultra thin case houses Jaeger-LeCoultre’s, is equipped with the notable hand wound calibre 849. At just 1.85 millimetres thick, the movement underlines La Grande Maison’s century-old mastery of this demanding form of Haute Horlogerie.

In tribute to the film’s narrative, the case-back of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife watch has been engraved with the Kingsman logo, as well as the legend, and is presented in a specially designed Kingsman sleeve box. And in the words of the Kingsman maxim, “Manners Maketh Man”, the limited-edition style is both functional and extremely elegant; the gentleman’s watch.
