KID CUDI KURT COBAIN
Kid Cudi honoured Kurt Cobain during his Saturday Night Live performances.

The Saturday Night Live stage at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York has seen some pretty memorable moments, but Kid Cudi took it to a whole new level over the weekend with a stunning Kurt Cobain tribute (topped off with a dress designed by Virgil Abloh), followed by news of an Off White collab.

The 37-year-old rapper was this week’s special musical guest, and his performance fell on the same week as the anniversary of Cobain’s death at age 27. Kurt Cobain, Nirvana singer’s and songwriter, died by suicide on April 5, 1994.

Cudi took to the stage in two of Cobain’s most famous outfits to honour the late musician. First, he took to the stage in a floral dress to perform his song “Sad People” in a spaghetti-strapped floral dress. The Cobain tribute dress was a shoutout to a similar outfit worn by the grunge singer on The Face magazine’s cover in 1993 – a year before his death.

But even more iconic than the dress was the Cobain cardigan. The Nirvana frontman rocked a green, mohair cardigan during Nirvana’s legendary “MTV Unplugged” concert. The cigarette-stained, unwashed sweater sold at auction for $334,000 in 2019. During his performance of “Tequila Shots,” Cudi rocked a green cardigan, a Kurt Cobain tribute and an obvious nod to Cobain’s MTV fit.

Following the performances, the internet came alive as commentators rushed to heap praise on Cudi for both the tribute and his outfits’ unique style. In particular, it was the spaghetti-strap dress that seemed to demand attention.

Cudi was quick to lap up the love for the Kurt Cobain tribute before revealing the dress he wore onstage during his live performance of “Sad People,” which was custom-made by Virgil Abloh and Off-White.

Fans were vibing the look, with the viral floral-pattern maxi dress being plastered across the internet. Realising that demand was high, Cudi delighted the internet with a second drop of timely news.

Kid Cudi has revealed that he is working on an Off-White™ collection with Virgil Abloh, but no further details have been released.
