Last month, Levi’s unveiled its hyped and limited-edition partnership with New Balance. It fused the best of both worlds for cop-worthy sneakers and whilst it may have been considered Levi’s best collaboration to-date, the much loved denim mogul has gone above and beyond for a new collaboration with none other than Tyler, The Creator. Known for his laid back look and forward-thinking brand, Golf Wang, the artist-cum-designer has been recruited by Levi’s for a play on its most iconic silhouette.
Releasing in celebration of Levi’s 501® Day 2020, the Levi’s x GOLF collection features a colourful take on the classic Levi’s 501® jean and Trucker Jacket hookup. For nearly 150 years, Levi’s has produced the original denim jean — the 501® — patented on May 20th, 1873 and epitomised classic American fashion spanning across ages, subcultures, and genders. Every year, Levi’s celebrates the invention of the most iconic piece of clothing of all time on May 20th.
The result has seen the style splashed with an array of colour polkadots. Inspired by a rainbow polka-dot jean that was first created for the 2016 GOLF WANG runway show, this collection includes a 501® ‘93 jean and vintage fit Trucker in ecru denim. Also featured on both the 501® ’93 and the Trucker Jacket is a special edition co-branded back patch. To reflect the concept of sizing up for a slouchier 501®, the 501® ‘93 jean features both Levi’s sizing and GOLF sizing (in blue) on the back patch — creating a custom fit that Levi’s and GOLF WANG agree best embodied their vision for the 501®.
