It’s time to update your sunglasses game as Maison Margiela and Gentle Monster unveil their latest venture in eyewear innovation. This collaboration marks a significant moment, introducing a collection that stands out for its temple-less designs, luxurious leather-wrapped frames, and the unmistakable hallmark of Maison Margiela: the four white stitches. Spanning 17 unique designs, this collection is a testament to the shared experimental and artisanal ethos of both brands.
Captured through the lens of Jordan Hemingway, the promotional campaign places these eyewear pieces within a surreal, dream-like setting. This backdrop is inspired by the narrative of Maison Margiela’s Co-Ed Spring-Summer 2024 Collection, which itself is a nod to a timeless transatlantic journey. The collection and its presentation delve into the future of fashion, melding the art of craftsmanship with forward-thinking design principles.
The collaboration explores themes of futurism intertwined with the essence of personal style—how memories, familiarities, and instincts shape our fashion choices. Among the collection, there are ten sunglasses and seven spectacle designs, each reflecting the collection’s overarching theme. The frames, available in a palette of signature colors such as black, white, grey, cream, transparent, and tortoiseshell, also offer an exclusive selection wrapped in leather, presenting shades of black, ivory, khaki, and blue.
A highlight of the collection is the futuristic MM101 and MM102 models, envisioned by Creative Director John Galliano. These designs redefine eyewear with their voluminous, metallic, mask-like appearance, crafted to seamlessly integrate with the wearer’s facial contours. Presented in silver Glam Slam eyewear cases, these temple-less wonders contrast with the rest of the collection’s white-cased counterparts.
