The hype around the Space Jam sequel continues to build, and now Nike is getting in on the act, releasing the official Nike ‘Hare’ Force 1 Space Jam sneakers.
The long-awaited sequel, officially titled ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy,’ is scheduled to hit cinemas on July 15 in Australia. Now fans of the franchise will be able to dress appropriately for the premiere.
The Space Jam sneaker is a twisted take on Nike’s most famous sneaker, the Air Force 1. The Hare Force 1 rocks a light blue fury colourway across the swoosh and outsoles, complete with classic white leather. The hardwood silhouette features both Bugs Bunny and Lola stitched on in their Tune Squad jerseys with the ball in hand.
This is not the first time we’ve copped a Space Jam sneaker. When the original movie dropped in 1996, we saw the release of the Air Jordan XI, an instant classic. Never one to miss a beat, Nike then re-released the Air Jordan 1 Ultra High sneaker in 206 to celebrate Space Jam’s 20th anniversary. The Space Jam sneaker went on to become one of Nike’s most significant releases of all time.
“The Space Jam XI was the largest and most successful shoe launch in the history of Nike,” Trevor Edwards, president of Nike, said at that time.
Undoubtedly sneakerheads and NBA enthusiasts will compare the original Space Jam sneaker with the new Hare Force 1. In much the same way that fans have transported the Jordan vs Lebron debate from the basketball court to the big screen.
Set to drop later this month, ahead of Space Jam: A New Legacy’s release on July 16, the “Hare” Force 1 will retail for USD 120 and be available online.
