SPACE JAME2 TRAILER

After a whole lot of hype, the Space Jam 2 trailer has finally arrived. Officially titled Space Jam: A New Legacy, the trailer teases out a little bit more of what we can expect from this hotly anticipated sequel.

As we discussed earlier, the Space Jam 2 trailer reveals that King James ends up in Looney Tune world after his son, Don (Cedric Joe) accidentally gets trapped in a virtual space by a rogue algorithm named Al-G Rhythm (Don Cheadle).

Naturally, the only way to escape this animated prison by doing what King James does best: playing ball. While the Space Jam 2 trailer didn’t give too much away, it’s clear that A New Legacy is a marked departure from the original Jam.

Firstly, the film looks special effects-heavy so expect a lot of scenes featuring LeBron James trying his absolute hardest to remember where the green screen is. We’ve also seen a general upgrade of all the Warner Bros.’ characters, Bugs Bunny in high-def.

For those born and raised on the original Jam, the new look Space Jam 2 trailer might be a little jarring.

We’ve previously touched on how the Space Jam arena may provide the final setting for the LeBron vs Jordan debate, and if the Space Jam 2 trailer is anything to go by, then Jordan may have the edge.

No matter where you land on the debate, it’s hard to deny that Jordan’s acting was impressive in Space Jam. He was able to artfully navigate the line of playing himself, while still playing a character. Unfortunately, from what we see in the Space Jam 2 trailer, James doesn’t measure up.

Luckily for LeBron, there are a slew of supporting characters that can share the burden. Alongside Bugs Bunny we can expect to see Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety, Sylvester and Lola Bunny, voiced by none other than Zendaya.

Meanwhile, the NBA roster has stepped up in the cameo stakes with Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, Kyle Kuzma; and WNBA players Diana Taurasi, Nneka Ogwumike, and Chiney Ogwumike all set to appear.

Unfortunately, there’s no sign of LeBron’s former teammate, Dwayne Wade, although eagle-eyed fans will notice a Wade shoutout in the Space Jam 2 trailer. Years ago, during a game against the Milwaukee Bucks, James caught a pass from teammate Dwayne Wade and threw down a thunderous dunk. The play became immortalised in the NBA and now it’s set to be recreated on the big screen, with Lola Bunny playing the part of Wade.

Space Jam 2: A New Legacy will be released theatrically and via HBO Max on July 15th.
