There are very few partnerships in this world that are more iconic than the pairing between luxury watchmaker Omega and 007 agent James Bond. So, you can imagine then the hype last week when Omega unveiled a new Seamaster 300 to mark the 60th anniversary of the James Bond franchise.

Held by “MI6”, special guests descended upon the railway arches of London Bridge where the guest of honour and Bond himself Daniel Craig (Bond lives!!) unveiled what is the newest Omega Seamaster 300 dedicated to 60 years of 007.

While Craig, looking as dapper as ever dressed in a classic black tuxedo, was obviously one of the main attractions of the night, not even the  blockbuster actor could take away from the main reveal which had spectators in awe: the Seamaster Diver 300m 60 Years of James Bond Stainless Steel.

Yes, the watch really is something else. Marrying the design elements of the latest Bond watch in No Time to Die with its steel mesh bracelet, together with the original blue hue Omega Seamaster that first appeared on Pierce Brosnan’s wrist in the 1995 classic Goldeneye, this new timepiece is dedicated to Bond aficionados who revel in vintage design.

Much like the original #BondSeamaster, this watch features the same blue shade anodized aluminium bezel that works effortlessly with an aluminium blue dial, accompanied by a laser-etched wave pattern on the dial that is totally reminiscent of the 1995 model, as well as its Lollipop hands. The 42mm watch is powered by Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806 with a power reserve of 55 hours.

But the highlight of this new Seamaster has to be its caseback; turn over the watch to find the classic Bond silhouette animated in a way that reveals the famous opening sequence of every Bond film and spinning gun barrel design. It’s marvellously done by the design team at Omega, and is made possible by a patent-pending “moiré” effect animation that’s linked to the movement of the Lollipop seconds hand, so the action never stops.

Collectors of the commemorative Seamaster will also receive a blue wooden box in the original Diver 300M pattern, with three dots inspired by the classic Bond movie opening sequence, including a secret push button on the right. It’s a seriously stunning release by Omega, and one that will easily go down as one of the nicest Bond-related Seamasters ever. Our only gripe is its size; if this watch could be presented in a 39-40mm sizing, we’d be racing to the Omega boutique as we speak.
