It now makes sense why Irish heartthrob, the Oscar-nominated Paul Mescal, is always papped in those tiny little running shorts

It’s been a long time since a really good rumour about a celebrity did the rounds a la the Richard Gere legend. Social media and its ability to give direct access to famous people kind of changed that. But the next gen of actors who have foregone the pitfalls of posting on Instagram or Twitter (X) might prove to be fertile ground for the kind of nonsensical stories that once filled the pages of gossip rags.

Case in point: Paul Mescal. The Prince of County Kildare who is currently the centre of a wild series of unfounded allegations that he roots and runs. Does the Irish Exit. Hits the pavement. Achieves a new PB for a two kilometre dash back to his apartment.

Over Christmas, seems that someone somewhere dropped the crumb that Mescal, 27, likes to take his hook ups to the park the morning after for a nice and lovely post-coital stroll and then LEGS IT. No warning, just runs like Tom Cruise in any scene in any one of his movies.

“One of Paul Mescal’s hookups should tie a small bell onto one of his shoes so they can hear him running away afterwards” one person wrote.

“I hope Nell Mescal is doing the duty of all little sisters everywhere and making many terrible jokes about running this morning,” wrote another.

Let’s be clear. There is not a single shred of evidence that Paul Mescal, who broke up with singer Phoebe Bridgers earlier this year and is currently doing the media rounds for his new film All Of Us Strangers will also stars fellow hot Celt Andrew Scott, has ever run away from a hook-up or a girlfriend.

But it’s not about whether it’s true or not at the end of the day, is it? It’s the absurdity of it that makes it so entertaining.

Thank you Paul, for providing the best ending to 2023 we could have asked for.
