Prince Archie received a special shout out from his grandfather, King Charles III, during an intimate post-coronation function.

Unfortunately for little Prince Archie, May 6 will no longer be exclusively reserved for the Sussex Royal’s birthday, with the date now always be known as the day his grandfather, King Charles III, was officially crowned King and ascended to the throne.

Indeed, this fraught planning on the monarch’s side saw his coronation overshadow his grandson’s fourth birthday party, which contributed to the reason Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, didn’t stay for the entirety of the coronation weekend.

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, also stayed at home in Montecito, California, rather than attending the regal festivities, with the 41-year-old spotted hiking amongst reports her absence was to “protect her peace”.

But according to new reports, King Charles didn’t spend the weekend avoiding the topic, rather taking an opportunity during a private family lunch at Buckingham Palace to toast Prince Archie’s birthday.

One publication described the glass-raising speech as a “moving tribute”, however, with new information emerging about the contents of the toast, critics of the crown claim the newly-crowned King may have snubbed his grandson.

As per an anonymous source, King Charles toasted to “those who weren’t there” and made a special mention to Prince Archie, wishing him a happy birthday “wherever he is”.

Perhaps all the pomp and pageantry of his coronation didn’t allude King Charles to the fact Prince Archie was living with his estranged son in California, and that’s where he would be spending his birthday.

Prince Harry wasn’t in attendance at this private post-coronation gathering, so wasn’t present to hear his father remark about his son’s location.

The Spare author was spotted privately departing from Westminster Abbey and reportedly heading back to his family in the United States.

It’s unknown whether Prince Harry formerly caught up with his brother, Prince William of Wales, and his father before the televised coronation, but according to royal correspondent Omid Scobie, the coronation was the first time that Prince Harry saw his family face-to-face.

There’s no news on whether King Charles is planning on hosting any events on the birthday’s of one of his other grandchildren, but we’re sure this toast has given him a firm reminder of his family member’s locales.
