adidas has been busy of late teaming up with some of the biggest brands in luxury fashion and lifestyle. Earlier this month, the German athletic powerhouse unveiled its second collaboration with Balenciaga. Now, adidas is taking luxury athleisure to a whole new level, teaming up with arguably the most renowned luggage brand in the world, Rimowa.
The two iconic German brands have come together for this new collaborative partnership to celebrate the spirit of mobility – an inaugural capsule collection that seeks to offer explorers of the world the perfect tools – albeit luxurious – to navigate and escape the cities of today.
The capsule collection, which is exclusively made in Germany, highlights a cross-category collection featuring two contemporary designs: Rimowa’s first-ever aluminium backpack and the adidas NMD_S1 sneaker. The collection takes utilitarian design cues to offer colour pallettes of khaki and titanium. Designed to be used in the outdoors, the pieces are made complete with orange accents.
The backpack is super luxurious, and a clear nod to Rimowa’s classic aluminium luggage staples. Featuring a thoughtful, functional design, the backpack is designed with padded utility shoulder straps fitted with a carabin and thumb loops to rope weight. The piece also features foam ridges inspired by the adidas Boost foam overlaying the backpack’s grooved surface. To allow for flat packing, a detachable gusset opens the backpack to reveal two deep zipped pockets, as well as a 16-inch laptop pocket inscribed with both brands’ logos.
The sneakers, on the other hand, are a clear representation of the Rimowa aethsetic infused into the classic adidas sneaker designer. The NMD_S1 is a modern lifestyle shoe with the idea of ‘movement’ at the core of its design. It features adidas’ signature Primeknit on its upper in a titanium-inspired colourway, with the flexible adidas Boost midsole in a light, almost translucent base colour. Together, the collection is created for urban explorers seeking to meaningfully reconnect with natural landscapes. While both items are evidently stylish and luxe in design, they are also practical, too. Both items are suitable for outdoor needs and overnight trips.
The Rimowa x adidas collection is now available to shop online and available in limited quantities via Rimowa stores in Australia. The NMD_S1 in Titanium will retail at $400 and the Backpack in Titanium $2,730.
