The French house of Dior has long had a penchant for art, after all, fashion can be considered one such form. But it wasn’t until the appointment of Kim Jones as Creative Director that modern artists such as KAWS and Hajime Sorayama were given a global spotlight on the Dior runway. Though Spring/Summer 2021 was presented virtually amid the pandemic, the effect was no less impactful with Ghanian-born creative, Amoako Boafo, collaborating for the film as well as pieces from the collection.

Knitwear, silk shirts and jacquard designs formed the blank canvas for Boafo. The artist’s graphic brushstrokes emulated onto fabric by way of intricate haute couture techniques. The contemporary designs then extended into accessories where archival style cues sat alongside new sportswear pieces and the Dior oblique. The result is reimagined pieces that are a must-have according to the house.

Most notably, footwear took centre stage for Spring/Summer 2021 where sneakers and open-toed sandals permeated into the collection, lending a casual approach to lauded Dior tailoring.

Among the offering, Jones introduced the new Atlas Sandal a stylistic ode to one of his favourite countries: Japan. Available in three colourways – combining the Dior Oblique canvas with black or beige suede, and black neoprene with khaki suede – the sole of the chunky sandals is woven with rope, while the sides are adorned with mesh for a futuristic feel. Elsewhere, new and coveted kicks took form as the B27 Sneakers. The style is on offer in high-top and low-top iterations, in a number of subtle colourways and combines inspiration from the ’80s tennis shoe and skateboarding sneaker silhouette.

When it comes to leather goods, it is no surprise that the iconic Dior Saddle Bag has seen a rerun. Albeit, this recognisable silhouette is now available in an unprecedented format, the Maxi Saddle. The newly-released design is fully functional; featuring an adjustable shoulder strap for a crossbody look or messenger-style feel while it also arrives with a removable phone case. Now available in boutiques globally, the Maxi Saddle is produced in black or khaki grained leather, as well as in the Dior Oblique canvas – in either classic or black monochrome versions
