Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen has quite the resumé – a cannibal, a rebel, internationally wanted villain, most recently the latest antagonist against everyone’s favourite professor cum adventurer Indiana Jones – but now he can also add to this the title of ambassador for Italian luxury house Zegna.
The announcement of Mikkelsen as the newest member of the Zegna family coincided with the actor’s appearance in Cannes and the world premiere of his new film, Indiana Jones And The Dial of Destiny starring alongside Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Mikkelsen arrived to the red carpet sporting custom Zegna for the ceremonial opening of the Cannes Film Festival. He’s been spotted at photo calls wearing the Vicuna overshirt, matching trousers and pristine new pair of the Zegna Triple Stitch sneakers.
Mikkelsen joins good company in this new role. Previously, Zegna has worked with the likes of the legendary Robert De Niro, Javier Bardem and Dev Patel and had Italian director Luca Guadagnino shoot the fourth chapter of their Defining Moments campaign. For their thoughtful “What does it mean to be a man today?” campaign, the house worked with the intense talent of Mahershala Ali.
Current Succession standout star Kieran Culkin has also been named as ambassador for the aforementioned Triple Stitch sneaker. A tongue-in-cheek nod to the debate surrounding quiet luxury that has always been at the heart of the Zegna design philosophy.
Mikkelsen has made a name for himself for playing the perfect antihero. He first found international acclaim playing the Bond antagonist Le Chiffre in Casino Royale but it was his turn as the brilliant yet deadly Dr Hannibal Lector in the Silence of the Lambs spinoff series Hannibal that cemented him with a talent for delving into the darker parts of the human psyche.
