“When I was younger, we went to Elcho island (my mum’s community where she grew up) to go hunting for honey,” Magnolia Maymuru recalls to GRAZIA and ICON. “We often spent a whole day or night hunting during my childhood, my mum, sisters and I. My mum picked up a fruit and I asked her, ‘What are you looking at?’ and it was a Kakadu plum.”

The Australian Indigenous actress and model was recently named the face of Swisse’s new range: Swisse Earth. While the wellness brand has become a household staple among men and women with everyday supplements and topical beauty products, this month the company entered its first foray of vegan ingestible beauty powders.

In recent years, the buzzy health and wellness category has taken centre stage in our pantries and beauty cupboards with promises of increased immunity, better sleep and the best part, a younger looking complexion. What makes this release different? Swisse Earth incorporates ethically and responsibly sourced native Australian superfood ingredients. Think Lemon Myrtle, Finger Lime and Kakadu Plum (which has 100 times more Vitamin C than orange) and is found in all four of the brand’s new powders.

Earth Elevate assists in reducing tiredness and fatigue, Earth Immune (Chris Hemsworth‘s personal favourite and mine too) supports the immune system and protects the body against free radical damage. Earth Collagen Boost supports collagen production and tissue formation in the body while Earth Beauty Cleanse assists in normal bowel function and digestion.

“It’s fantastic, I love this product,” Hemsworth said in a Zoom call. “Swisse has always had health and wellness at its core and now it incorporates the environment, communities and recycled, renewable packaging.”

Maymuru was born in Yirrkala in the Northern Territory and belongs to the Yolgnu community where the Kakadu plum is grown and harvested. She hopes the new range inspires local men and women to “get a sense of the real Australia”.

As part of developing the Swisse Earth range, the company has formed a partnership with Mamabulanjin Aboriginal Corporation (MAC), a not-for-profit organisation empowering Aboriginal communities through professional development, economic independence, representation and education, and a source of Kakadu Plum for the new product range.

“These ingredients have been used for thousands of years by first nations Australians for their medicinal and healing properties and we have lost connection to the incredible healing power of these ingredients,” Eliza Millsom, Swisse’s resident nutritionist tells GRAZIA. “Every single ingredient has been meticulously chosen from farms and locations where nature intended them to grow to have the highest nutritional value and are formulated with incredible Australian Native superfoods that we have yet to see in any other beauty powders.”
