A cold front was moving through the city on the evening of the Sydney Thor: Love and Thunder premiere. The sprinkling of rain was threatening as a hundred or so media and fans – some of which had been waiting since 9am for a chance to meet the cast – lined the red carpet at the Entertainment Quarter without umbrellas in hand. A number of journalists joked that it was the perfectly hatched PR plan (and not at all La Niña) with the weather providing the perfect prelude to the arrival of director Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth, aka the God of Thunder.

While the new Marvel film will release into cinemas from July 6, the advance screening of the film for a select few has already begged the question: will there be another? For the first time in nine years, Natalie Portman returned to the franchise as Jane Foster and ‘Mighty Thor’ and while it could be argued that the MCU needs to wind down the OG characters to make way for another phase, the Thor instalment has no signs of slowing down.

Speaking to Waititi on the red carpet, we couldn’t help but look to the future. Will there be a ‘Thor 5’ and will you direct it?, was the natural question. “If Chris was into, I would do it. We just have to come up with an idea that tops this one,” the director confidently responded.

The question remains whether Hemsworth would embark on another blockbuster. In a previous interview with Vanity Fairthe one condition the Australian actor had for returning for Thor: Love And Thunder was that he did it with Waititi. “I don’t know that I would’ve done another if Taika hadn’t said yes, he was going to do it. And he had written this beautiful script which was a wacky, crazy, romantic comedy set in space and that I hadn’t seen before.”

That’s your answer for now! Stay tuned for further development. In the meantime, make sure you check out Thor: Love and Thunder in cinemas from July 6.
