Iconic Hollywood film director Quentin Tarantino has just revealed the name of his last ever film project: The Movie Critic. The legendary filmmaker, who’s titles include Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Inglorious Bastards, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood plus more, has for many years stated that he intends to retire after his tenth picture (or by the time he turns 60), and well it looks like Tarantino’s reign in Hollywood is coming to an end… for now.
Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter reported that, according to sources close to Tarantino, the filmmaker has completed a script for The Movie Critic and he is planning on directing the film this fall.
While details around the upcoming film project are scarce, sources did tell THR that the film’s story is set in late 1970s Los Angeles with a female lead at its centre. While only suggestions, THR mentioned that legendary American film critic, essayist and novelist Pauline Kael could be a source of inspiration for the film’s lead, as she is someone Tarantino has deep respect for.
Other details around Tarantino’s last picture have yet to be revealed, including which studio will be attached to the project, as well as the cast and crew that will be involved. Of course, we can imagine the rat-race that will (or has) ensued to star or feature in what is said to be Tarantino’s last film.
Since the 1980s, Quentin Tarantino has been a director that every and any actor would want to work with, directing cult films that almost always garner extreme success at the box office and during the awards season. Tarantino has worked with the most coveted actors, with notable mentions to Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Samuel L. Jackson as frequent collaborators.
Although Tarantino has many a time mentioned his tenth picture will be his last, he has also expressed a great interest in pursuing other creative outlets, such as directing limited series or even plays. We’d also love to see another novel or two from the director/writer, after publishing his first novel, a novelisation of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, in 2021.
