In all honesty, you never know what you’re going to get on the red carpet for any given music awards ceremony. But what can be promised is that it will always be outrageous, spectacular and just a little OTT. Today, at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles, it was no different. Days before Australia celebrate its own local artists at the annual ARIA Awards in Sydney, the Microsoft Theatre was once again alight as some of the world’s most celebrated artists descended on the red carpet. Boasting names such as Shawn Mendes, Taylor Swift and Post Malone, A-listers arrived to absolutely serve but it was new comers who took out best dressed.

Between Timothée Chalamet and Billy Porter, my heart can no longer handle the spectacular looks they seem to pull off, red carpet after red carpet. While the Beautiful Boy actor is not seen during music events, Billy Porter was of course in attendance and like any of his arrivals, he pulled focus in incredible fashion. One of many A-list presenters at this year’s AMAs, the Pose star made an entrance in an all-white ensemble, boasting a billowing cape and pants – a hallmark silhouette from the Thom Browne Spring/Summer 2020 runway. “Today we celebrate American Music. The songs of today are the soundtrack to our existence…”, Porter wrote on Instagram.

Drawing from another iconic runway look, Billie Eilish continued her affinity for menswear in new-season Burberry. At times, you could almost miss the 17-year-old while she donned a matching, Burberry plaid shirt, pants and sneaker trio while the look was finished off with an embellished cap, draped over her face. Another young breakout star, Lil Nas X, was again not at all subtle as he stepped onto the red carpet in head-to-toe fluorescent green. Putting the yee’ in yeehaw, the ‘Old Town Road’ artist stuck with his usual country-inspired silhouettes with a cropped blazer, high-waisted pants, and heeled boots – a zebra high-neck shirt adding extra ‘wow’ factor. In an interview this evening, the artist has also teased the release of a debut album in 2020.
