Coca-Cola is at the top of headlines this week following reports the international corporation is working with Aurora Cannabis. Based in Canada, the marijuana producer which trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange is supposedly in conversation with the company, with plans to produce a new “recovery” drink.
According to an article from Snopes, Coca-Cola is dealing with the topic in a sensitive manner, and in no way wants to associate with the hallucinative cannabis. Alternatively, both companies are looking into creating a beverage infused with CBD, the ingredient in marijuana that aids pain relief – rather than hallucination. This product has been used before in treating medical conditions.
In a public statement, Coca-Cola expressed: “We have no interest in marijuana or cannabis. Along with many others in the beverage industry, we are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world. The space is evolving quickly. No decisions have been made at this time.”
