When Disney and 21st Century Fox merged, there was some uncertainty surrounding the future of X-Men characters, like Deadpool and Wolverine, now that they’re made in the same place as the competing Marvel Cinematic Universe.

To top it off, fans were worried that Deadpool’s bad language and violence would be too much for Disney’s tastes, prompting many to assume that a third instalment of the franchise wouldn’t be a reality anytime soon.

But according to Ryan Reynolds – who would know – Deadpool 3 is has been given the green light and is currently in production.

The actor confirmed the news in an appearance on Live With Kelly And Ryan, telling the hosts: “We’re working on it right now, the whole team.” He added, “We’re over at Marvel now, which is like the big leagues all of a sudden.”

As for whether the character will play a part in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick said that that there is likely to be some crossover. “Marvel has promised to continue to let us play in the R-rated Deadpool universe, and the hope is that they will also let us veer into the MCU a little bit as well and play in that sandbox,” they told Entertainment Weekly.

“Our feeling and Ryan’s feeling is that it’s got to be the right idea, it’s got to be great … I think once we collectively agree what idea that great idea is, we’ll be off to the races.”
