Loved by many and known by all, Sir Elton John has lived a long and colourful career, and long before selling over 300 million records and the slew of industry awards he now carries, the singer and legendary pianist was another amateur musician. Starting out from the age of 11, the artist impressed his teachers and worked his way to the Royal Academy of Music, where he began to form his identity. Now, the latest biopic film Rocketman will explore his rise to fame.

Dropping yesterday, Paramount Pictures revealed the first trailer to Rocketman and it includes everything you’d expect from the English composer. Starring Welsh actor Taron Egerton as John, the film showcases extravagant looks and epic music in what has been described as a “musical fantasy”, rather than just a biopic film.

“Everyone thinks it’s a biopic. It isn’t. It’s a fantasy musical,” Egerton told Collider in May. “So it’s actually his songs used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments. He’s not the only character that sings,” he said.

Set to feature colourful dance numbers and breathtaking music, the film is expected to release in cinemas on May 17, 2019. Tune into the trailer below.
