British pop star and occasional actor Harry Styles has set a high bar for himself after performing one of the weirder Australian traditions onstage during a concert in Perth – a shoey.

In the words of my partner, “that’s the butchest thing he’s ever done.” And they’re not wrong.

Immortalised on multiple TikTok accounts, Styles was making casual conversation with the crowd before he kicked off one of his shoes (from the looks of it an adidas x Gucci gazelle, of course) and said “It’s been a dream of mine,” he told the audience before kindly asking if anyone member for a drink.

“Does anybody have a drink that they wouldn’t mind lending?” Styles can be heard asking as he reaches down to grab something from someone in the audience.  “Can we do a shoey with water or is that against the rules? No?”

The 29-year-old Styles proceeded to then throw back his $1170 shoe full of liquid from his bottle, saying “This is one of the most disgusting traditions ever…” To be fair though, barely any of it got into his mouth and with most of landing on the front of his shirt.

To top it off, Styles then launched into a rendition of another Australian cultural classic: ‘Horses’ by Darryl Braithwaite.

Styles’ performance at Perth’s HBF Park marks first stop in the Australian leg of his sell out Love On Tour show. Fans had allegedly camped out for hours ahead of the performance, battling extreme heat before the doors to the venue finally opened.

After Perth, Harry Styles Love On Tour will travel to Melbourne where he will perform at Marvel Stadium, before flying up to Sydney and on to the Gold Coast.
