Hermès remains so committed to achieving a perfect state of tasteful chic that I’m almost daring it to put a foot wrong. It never will though. Not while the incredible Véronique Nichanian remains in control of the output of its men’s universe.
Her runway for the Maison’s Fall Winter 2024 collection was a reminder of just how incredibly balanced her approach to menswear is, whether that’s from a technical perspective navigating fabrication and texture of the cuts and colour palette that offers effortless mobility of pieces. It’s also interesting to see how Nichanian, and Hermès at large, operates so far outside of the trend spectrum. While brands elsewhere have embraced exaggerated loose fits, Hermès has pulled back into leaner silhouettes.

A core message of the Hermès universe is freedom of movement: nothing can impede the body’s journey through whichever landscape it finds itself in be that urban or rural. So it remains for Fall Winter 2024, where even layering offered minimal weight to carry and leathers remained as supple as cashmere counterparts.

The lineup featured a variety of outerwear, including short pea coats and parkas crafted in calfskin, alongside double-breasted coats in polished calfskin. Notable were the straight blousons with removable sheepskin collars and the elegant coats made from deerskin flannel. The collection also highlighted reversible teddy parkas and double-breasted coats in sheepskin, with a nod to versatility through a reversible sleeveless vest in babylamb.

Travel coats in wool broadcloth with leather pockets, as well as blousons with hoods and neo-racing jerseys, were presented in Toilorage fabric with raised snaffle detailing. The show also featured coats in maxi-chevron wool and auto coats in a wool-cashmere blend, complemented by removable hoods in gum canvas. Double parkas and zipped overshirts in gum canvas and Prince of Wales check wool added a touch of traditional elegance.
