This is a match made in film heaven. Overnight, it was confirmed that Joker actor Joaquin Phoenix will join forces with director and fimmaker Ridley Scott for an upcoming biopic on French statesman and military leader, Napoleon Boanaparte. The film is titled ‘Kitbag’, and draws reference from the saying, “There is a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag.”

The duo most famously worked together on the historical drama Gladiator, in 2000.

According to Deadline, “The film is an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine. The intention of the film is to capture Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.”

Co-stars are yet to be announced, but David Scarpa will serve as screenwriter, while Ridley will also join Kevin Walsh and Scott Free in producing the film.
