When Kanye West announced he would run for president on July 5, there was very real doubt whether he could legitimately enter the race so late in the game. Those concerns have become fact as it is now reported that the rapper and designer missed crucial ballot deadlines and only earned two percent of the vote in a national presidential poll conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies.

According to the New York Magazine Intelligencerhe had taken the correct steps in beginning his campaign for presidency in the key southern states of Florida and South Carolina, however it was far too late.

The poll in question asked over 2000 respondents  who they would vote for in the 2020 election without a mention of West’s name and then again recently with the inclusion of West. “If Kanye West is on the ballot in your state in the Presidential Election on November 3, 2020, for whom will you vote?” Joe Biden received 48 percent, Donald Trump earned 39 percent while West finished with 2 percent. West was ahead the likes of third-party candidates Jo Jorgensen, a Libertarian, and Howie Hawkins, a member of the Green Party.

The report also stated that West did in fact take all the necessary steps for a legitimate campaign. He filled paid positions and offered $5,000 USD per week for individuals to assist him in getting the required signatures before the July 15 deadline in Florida. But with a massive 132,781 valid signatures needed, it was an almost impossible task.

West also hired Steve Kramer who is famously known for his work in this field. After missing ballot deadlines in Nevada, Kramer appeared in an interview saying, “I have nothing good or bad to say about Kanye. Everyone has their personal decision about why they make decisions. Running for president has to be one of the hardest things for someone to actually contemplate at that level… any candidate running for president for the first time goes through these hiccups.”

So Kanye West is believed to be out of the 2020 presidential election, but we can expect the man to run in 2024. Stay tuned for any further developments.
