It has been an explosive, and at times problematic, divorce period of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. For the most part it’s been marred by outbursts on social media (which eventually had West suspended) and rumoured bullying of both the reality star and the people she chose to date. The rapper and designer has attempted to make amends this week after he appeared on Good Morning America with a message for his former wife.

“This is the mother of my children and I apologise for any stress that I have caused, even in my frustration because God calls me to be stronger,” West said on national television on September 22. “But also, ain’t nobody else going to be causing no stress either. I need this person to be least stressed and the best sound mind and as calm as possible to be able to raise those children.”

The famous pair currently co-parent their four young children, North West, 9, Saint West, 6, Chicago West, 4, and Psalm West, 3. Discussing the difficulties surrounding co-parenting, he also drew parallels between his partnership with GAP. He terminated the partnership this month.

“I do have a voice, but I had to fight for it,” he continued. “That hurts you when you have to like scream about what your kids are wearing and little nuances where there was a parallel to what was happening at Gap, what was happening at Adidas and what was happening in my home.”

In March West accused his estranged wife of preventing him from seeing their kids via social media. While Kardashian had been largely silent on the issue she did clap back writing in the comment section, “Please stop with this narrative, you were just here this morning picking up the kids for school.”

The public apology is an important one, given so many young men and women are influenced by the star. But we really do hope he apologises privately and in person too. Their divorce has not yet been finalised.
